Sorry Salad Dressings

no-salad-dressingStore bought salad dressings typically contain unhealthy oils, trans fatty acids, and numerous additives. How sad for your salad! And talk about a wasted nutritional opportunity. What’s the point of eating a salad for its health benefits when you douse it with something that is so bad for you? You can easily make homemade salad dressing from ingredients that you usually have on hand such as: olive oil, lemon, balsamic vinaigrette, Dijon mustard and salt. I usually pour a little olive oil over my greens, squeeze some lemon, sprinkle a bit of salt, and toss. Then I add more as needed. Once you taste how these fresh ingredients complement your crispy greens, you will not want to go back to…..soybean oil. Blech.

If that’s not enough for you to trash it immediately, keep reading until you get to all of the what-the-heck-is-this ingredients. Then trash it. And make your own salad dressing. You won’t be sorry.

    That sounds like a great idea, but do you have to make it fresh every time? Can you make a batch and keep it for any length of time?

      Hi Julie, I’ve never tried to make a batch of it because, honestly, it takes about 45 seconds to do on the spot and I think it would take me longer to figure out exact proportions for a full batch. Plus, I kind of like the spontaneous creation. Makes me feel very Top Chefish. 🙂 But I can see that it would be nice to have something on hand. If I were making a batch, I’d probably follow an olive oil/balsamic vinaigrette recipe.
